The Social Security Agency of South Africa (SASSA) has a few specified dates which are to be adhered to in making its social grant payments in August 2025. The payments correspond to Older Persons Grants of Nt2,315, Child Support Grants of R560, and Foster Child Grants of R1,250. Biometric verification process was implemented from May 2025 for added security, which might inconvenience beneficiaries lacking a 13-digit South African ID number. This article contains all payment dates and grant amounts, as well as the procedures one needs to follow for verification compliance so as not to encounter delays.
August 2025 Payment Schedule
With payments to be made to 19 million beneficiaries, grants are paid during the first days of each month to enable beneficiaries to spend their monies early at pay points for congregating:
Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 5 August 2025
Disability Grant: Wednesday, 6 August 2025
Child Support and other Grants: Thursday, 7 August 2025
Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: Rolling basis 25–30 August 2025
Payments will reflect in bank accounts or on SASSA Gold Cards from the scheduled dates but still give retail cash payments through retailers such as Shoprite and Pick N Pay Tourism. SRD R370 payments specifically need you to check the exact payment dates on srd.sassa.gov.za, as the processing takes between a minimum of two and maximum of three days.
On Updated Grant Amounts
Having observed 5.2% inflationary pressure, SASSA has been empowered to increase grants from April 2025:
Old Age Grant: R2,315 for 60 to 74 years; R2,335 for 75 years and above.
Child Support Grant: R560 per child, R270 additional for qualifying Cgid.
Foster Child Grant: R1,250 per child.
Disability Grant: R2,315.
Care Dependency Grant: R2,315.
Grant-in-Aid: R560.
War Veterans Grant: R2,335.
The said adjustments help the neighbour to raise some life in an environment filled with 55.5% of indigents and 32.9%.
The Biometric Verification Requirement
From May 2025 onward, biometric verification, either fingerprint or face scan, shall be needed for any beneficiary who does not hold a 13-digit South African ID, or who is simply updating his or her details. Where a new application is flagged during its review, with flags numbering at least 210 000 beneficiaries by June 2025 stating either unreported income or invalid IDs, the taking of biometric records shall be done as a procedure. The act can be complied with by means of:
– Going to any SASSA pay point or office and enrol your biometrics, with your Id in hand;
– Updating your banking and contact details at services.sassa.gov.za or WhatsApp 082 046 8553; and
– Making sure the verification has been carried out by 31 July 2025, after which payments shall be suspended for those failing in doing so.
Avoiding Delays in Payments
Beneficiaries must do the following to avoid delays in payment:
Check Details: Check if the ID, cellphone number, and bank account details on sassa.gov.za are correct.
Biometrics: Be brought in for biometric verification purposes when SMSed by officials.
Correct Channels: Use bank transfers or SASSA Gold Cards, valid until May 2025, to access funds.
Avoid first day First-Day Rush: The funds are deposited into the account and are available for withdrawal after 2-3 days from August 5.
Report Fraud: In the event that a grant is claimed illegally, report immediately using the number, 0800 60 10 11.
Updates, and Keep Today Prepared
SRD status checker, WhatsApp support, and so on were offered by SASSA to beneficiaries to track their payments.
